Flea market funk.

Sunday was flea market day! We have two flea markets in wichita. One of them is north and only goes on every third Sunday at a local coliseum. It is wonderful. I usually find lots of pretty things for my home. The other one is south and in a shady part of town. Its a little more like a swap meet but sometimes you can find things hidden in the rough and sellers don't know what they have. I have found a hot pink Herman Miller chair there that I got for free! I get a little creeped out going to the south flea market sometimes. Thanks to my new I-phone app that shows where all the sex offenders are, I now know that pretty much every other house in south Wichita harbors a sex offender. Ew. I photographed some of the funky little things that I found at the flea markets on Sunday. I just love all the textures and colors!

Standing the test of time.

The third question in the pink saloon interview was: As creator and former owner of Harmonious Posh , you must have seen a lot of trends reinvented over time. What specific styles or accessories seem to stand the test of time?  I answered with the fallowing: I have definitely noticed some fashion elements that I believe will stand the test of time. Some of them have had and will continue to have a little tweaking one way or the other, but these are some of the things I believe will never go out of style. #1   An antique broach. Broaches have always been in fashion. They are very versatile no-matter what era they come from. You can where a broach on your shirt, scarf or in your hair and even on your belt. You can wear them to church or on a night out on the town.  # 2   The big belt. Belts have not gone out of style yet. Weather the trend is to wear it up high or down low, a belt has always been a figure flattering accessory.  # 3 Bangles. ...

Harmonious Posh from conception to fruition!

Today I am going to answer the second question from the interview with Pink Saloon.   pinksaloon.com  The Pink Saloon is my favorite store in Wichita and The owner asked me to answer a few questions for her blog. The fallowing is the second question:   Please tell us about Harmonious Posh from conception to fruition and anything else you want to share.  Here is my answer: I have always been a thrift store shopper. I think this stems form the early 90’s and the grunge days (thank you Mark Jacob's!) . I love to have unique items in my wardrobe that nobody else has. Growing up in wichita, It has been hard to find different fashion pieces that nobody else has and shopping at the thrift store   helped me to find funky items from our passed. Actually, my first love is not fashion but interior design. I love to find furniture and and change it. Chopping off legs and giving it a fresh coat of panted stripes or dots.  I treat interior design th...

My history lesson: a vintage fashion journey

I have to credit a local retail shop in Wichita for getting me to think about my next few blog post.  pinksaloon.com The Pink Saloon is my favorite store in Wichita and The owner asked me to answer a few questions for her blog. The fallowing is the first question: Can you give us a brief history lesson of your fashion journey?  And this was my answer: I usually go back in vintage time to find my personal style inspiration, but I try to mix the old with new so my wardrobe will still look up to date. I don't want to look like one of those old ladies who could get out of a certain ara. (although I find them awfully cute) I just need to bring a little of the soul of the past into my wardrobe.   In the early 90’s I discovered my passion for fashion. Between the ages of 12 to 14, I mixed grunge with hippie 60’s. I would like to credit my parents record collection as one of my biggest fashion inspirations. I would sit my parents basement, listening to band...

Concrete Countertop Concoction! A DIY Concrete Countertop Idea

I recently had concrete countertops installed in my kitchen. I got a pretty good deal on them so I guess that is why I had to finish them myself. It sucked at first, I couldn't find anything about how to finish concrete! During the time that they were unfinished they were so fragile and easy to stain, I had to do something! The only things I found when I searched were extensive messy ways to finish concrete - and my kitchen was not the place to be using chemicals that needed to be sprayed off with a hose. I looked all over the internet, I looked at lowes, home depot and all the local hardware shops in my town. I couldn't find anyone who really knew what they were talking about. I could have acid stained them but that would have been to messy in my new kitchen. I decided to take a chance and come up with my own way finish them.  What follows is a creative, do it yourself way to give a luxurious, natural finish to concrete countertops. I made this up as I went- and we were hap...

Where in the world are the window panels!?

I'm just about done remodeling my kitchen and I'm starting to put the finishing touches on the dining room and kitchen. I need to find some kind of seating and some window treatments. Why in the world is it so hard to find window panels? I have been to World Market, Target, Dillards, Pier 1 and I even went to the local fabric shop looking for a fabric that would work so I could make my own! Nothing. I can't find anything on line except plain neutral colored window panels and hardly any of them are grommets like what I want. Below is a fabric I found a while back in a pillow that I love. Can I just please find a window panel in a fabric like this with grommets on it? PLEASE! Jonathan Adler, please help me!
